FURTHER INFO

Indigenous female lone-caregivers are invited to join a sacred healing fire led by Leona Brown with Elder Mia Hunt. The ceremony will focus on healing after the challenge of lone-caregiving through the pandemic while impacted by the inter-generational trauma of colonialism and the residential school system.

This event is a kick-off event for the No Baby Left Behind Initiative, which is seeking participants to discuss actions and advocacy to end Indigenous female lone-caregiver poverty and determine initiative events and activities such as sacred fires, nature walks and other cultural and healing based activities to shape the project moving forward. Note: If you can't make it to this event but wish to learn more about the project and possibly join the project, please fill in the option below to have us add you to our email list so you receive more info.

NUMBER OF SPOTS: This event has 12 spots available. If you sign up to take a spot, thank you for respecting that spots are limited and we do need you to show up and take your spot. We will send reminders prior to the event. If you sign up and no longer can attend, please let us know so we can provide your spot to someone who can make it. Thank you.

DATE: The event will take place in Vancouver on Thursday, June 23rd

TIME: The event runs from 10am to 2pm and includes lunch and beverages. Due to the ceremonial nature of the event, it is very important that nobody shows up late. Thank you for responding the Elders and sacred ceremony by arriving on time.

LOCATION: The sacred fire will be held in Strathcona Park. We will contact all those who register with detailed information about the location prior to the event. Transit coverage provided, if needed, to ensure access to the event for all participants.

FURTHER DETAILS: To create a supportive space that prioritizes healing and participation for female lone-caregivers on their own and with each other, we are holding this event within school hours as the event does not support children's participation. Babies in arms most welcome. If you have a child or baby below school age that you will bring, please let us know and we can discuss how to best support your participation at the event and your young children are welcome. We will have a helper on site to assist with any small chidlren who are present. If you would prefer child-minding support so you can attend the event without your small children, please let us know and we will be in touch with you prior to the event.
